Speech Guy® is an organization, founded by a linguist and licensed and nationally certified Speech-Language Pathologist Wesley Oren Nicholson. This organization was founded with the goal of providing assessments and speech therapy to individuals, utilizing simple, highly effective strategies to remediate speech disorders. Our motto since 2010 is “Simple strategies to remediate speech disorders”.
Wes’ career as a Speech Pathologist began in 2005, with keen interest in working with adults with aphasia, stuttering, and TBI. The term “Speech Guy” began at Providence Speech & Hearing Center in 2006. While working with students on the playground at Providence Preschool, one particular student would run up to Wes regularly and say “Hey, Guy!” This student ended up needing speech support, along with a few others in the preschool, and hence the term “Speech Guy” was born. Working with kids at Providence made Wes realize two things: (1) working with kids is a tremendous blessing, and (2) in a profession comprised of 96% female speech therapists, male therapists play an important role as well.
In 2008-2010, realizing his love for the pediatric population, and particularly the schools, Wes began to work as a subcontractor at an Elementary School in Chino, CA. During this time, Wes realized the hard way how poorly speech pathologists are often supported in the school setting. Thus, he began developing a protocol of support for Speech-Language Pathologists serving students in the schools to help the job be not only sustainable but tremendously rewarding. July of 2010, planning was completed and Speech Guy® was formed, just months before he made the transition from “bachelor” to “married man”. On June 12, 2011, Wes married the love of his life, Nyri. Graduating from UCSD with a degree in Economics and Management, Nyri began to play an active role in Speech Guy®. She helped to establish the team as a Limited Liability Company and so our team became Speech Guy®, LLC!
In January of 2013, Nyri and Wes’ first son Joshua was born, so they decided to move to the Los Angeles area to be closer to family and church (Joshua 24:14-15). Now, being a family man, Wes has picked up even more passion for helping children grow into becoming thriving, successful communicators. The great mom & pop duo’s second son, Yesaiah (Isaiah in Armenian), was born in 2014, hence completing their family of 4 (Isaiah 53). Out amazing early intervention team began serving the early intervention population in Los Angeles in 2015 and have been doing so ever since. In light of the COVID-19 challenges, we are practicing safe practices that follow CDC guidelines and close collaboration with Regional Center.
At Speech Guy®, LLC, we not only provide therapy to adults and kids, but we work tirelessly to meet your loved ones’ therapy goals. Since inception, Speech Guy®, LLC has met the goals of and ‘graduated’ thousands of school-based and home-based students, many no longer requiring further speech therapy services. We currently service:
-School-based students in several school districts in the San Gabriel Valley area
-Home-based clients in the San Gabriel Valley, East Los Angeles, And Greater Whittier Areas
We utilize simple, highly skilled strategies to remediate specific speech and language difficulties. Our recipe for success, which includes quick rapport, skillful and intense treatment, and daily family support via home program resources, has amounted to the success and remediation of many clients through Speech Guy®, LLC. Although we focus on the pediatric population, our team has experience in treating and remediating adults and kids with many different types of communication difficulties. Furthermore, Speech Guy®, LLC has a key interest in raising money for students of low income families to provide them an avenue and motivation for college. Through a school program known as Speech Club, (or the Speech Competition), Speech Guy® , LLC has equipped over 100 students with tools to go to college, and helped to carry out many Speech Club/Competition events, providing over $5,000 in college scholarships to students thus far.
